Associate Technical Designer
Discount Dance has been the leader in dancewear for over 50 years. With over 10 in-house lines and a stock of top name-brands, Discount Dance leads dancewear around the world. The Associate Technical Designer is responsible for developing the technical components for all product categories from sketch handoff, fit approval to final pre-production approval, and development of tech packs. This position works in close collaboration with the production and development team.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Develop complete Tech Packs with detailed specifications, fabrications, and technical drawings from Designer’s initial sketch, paper pattern or garment
- Handles development lifecycle from sketch; tech pack creation, fit approvals from proto to final pp size set approval for multiple product lines
- Work in conjunction with designer to creates sketches and specs for Tech Packs, including front and back sketch, construction details, illustrations, materials, trims and hardware.
- Assures Tech Packs created internally or externally are accurate, complete and consistent
- Measure and spec samples from proto to TOP as needed
- Manages fit sessions with Design and Product Development assuring models & samples are in place to maximize styles fit and schedules follow-up fits for corrections as needed
- Resolves and communicates fit and construction issues to domestic and overseas suppliers within the development and production timelines
Skills/Qualifications:
- Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion, Technical Design or related
- Must have 3 + years technical design experience.
- Gerber Accumark digitizing knowledge ideal
- Some knowledge of patterns construction ideal
- Must have strong technical knowledge of garment construction, fabrics and tech packs
- Must have good sketching skills on a variety of garments
- Exp. in active-wear, dance and/or swim categories with exp. in stretch fabrics highly desired
- Successful in handling high volume of work, multitasker with ability to meet multiple deadlines
- Strong Illustrator, Photoshop, and Excel skills
- Bilingual in Spanish a plus
