Product Development Manager

The Product development manager, Walmart Women’s Junior Knit & Woven Dresses, Jumpsuits & rompers and Woven tops is accountable for leading a Design organization to develop seasonal product that drives growth & adheres to the brand’s DNA.  The Product development manager will manage the collection from initial concept through production phases. 

This role should continuously deliver and uphold the brand aesthetic, while also evolving with our client’s needs and industry trends.  As a key liaison with Merchandising, the ideal candidate will have strong technical design, well versed in overseas communication, advanced fabric knowledge, good commercial eye, presentation, organizational, and management skills.. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Design/Product

  • Oversee the product and sample execution for each season
  • Communicate with overseas offices daily to execute accurate and attractive sampling in the timeline required.
  • Manage all account specific requirements at every stage of development 
  • Adhere to the production calendar and deadlines required.
  • Responsible for fabric, trim and fit approvals 
  • Identify new fabrics in the market and develop 
  • Price designs and make changes to achieve require targets 
  • Inspecting samples and approving production
  • Able to create tech packs, provide detailed construction comments and flat sketches.
  • Stay informed and ahead of competitive landscape and industry trends and translate for the WM brand when required. 
  • Organizing presentations to sales to communicate product/details
  • Improve systems and streamline processes
  • Hold team accountable for deadlines 
  • Ability to identify commercial colors and prints for a balanced assortment 

Cross-Functional Partnerships

  • Partner with Merchandiser to ensure that assortment reflects concept direction, sku plan & styling needs.
  • Work closely with technical team to guide and correct fit samples.
  • Lead and manage a team of Associate and Assistants in all aspects of design development, print direction, balanced assortment, performance, deadlines and workflow. 
  • Responsible for all approvals, corrections, updates and changes to all product
  • Provide a positive and challenging work environment
  • Inspire team to continuously present new and innovative ideas
  • Communicate with sales on deliverables, product, changes and call outs

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of related experience in Product Development
  • A minimum of five years management experience managing  & training a team, from Sr. Designer to Design Assistant
  • Vast knowledge of fabric and construction with a focus on dresses, jumpsuits, rompers and woven tops 
  • Knowledge and experience in the women’s junior market
  • Exceptional design and product development skills; ability to manage from idea to execution
  • Strong Merchandising sensibility, coupled with a commercial design eye and product development skill set
  • Strong point of view and decision-making capabilities
  • Proven track record of growing businesses, identifying trends and delivering results
  • Solid understanding of the marketplace and competitive landscape
  • Strong leadership presence and ability to influence cross-functionally
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
  • Excellent communication skills- verbal, written and presentation
  • Ability to multi-task and work in fast paced environment under pressure
  • Extremely proficient using illustrator and Photoshop
  • Ability to travel when required
  • Experience in having a hands-on approach (designing actual product as well as directing)
  • Experience and comfortable giving presentations to the Executive/CEO level
  • Walmart experience, Ned graphics and PLM is a plus
