Rockets of Awesome is simplifying the process of shopping for stylish, high-quality kids clothing by using data and technology to bring over-the-top-awesome kids’ clothes to families across the country. Customers can get personalized seasonal subscription boxes, shop the full collection online, and send back outgrown clothes for credits. 

About the position:

Rockets of Awesome is hiring an Apparel Designer. This position is responsible for creating exceptional and on-brand merchandise for girls – baby, toddler and kids. This is a rare opportunity for a talented, eager and committed designer to experience all product categories and have creative influence on our brand. Working in a fast paced and evolving environment, reporting to our Head of Design and Merchandising, this designer will look trend-forward, to men’s runway, streetwear and active markets to inspire styles that customers can’t find elsewhere. This designer will also have the unique opportunity of owning and driving the product development and production side of girls – working directly with our factories from fabric development through the final product. What you’ll do:

  • Formulate design concepts for all girls product categories, including: knits, wovens, sweaters, denim, swim, sleep and cold weather accessories. 
  • Create color stories and develop exciting, trend-right fabrics, prints, and silhouettes.
  • Create and update garment sketches, tech packs, BOMs, and linesheets.
  • Constantly research market and runway trends, as it relates to the brand. Constant eye for newness, and ability to translate trends into brand-right and price-right garments.
  • Work directly with our factories to source fabrics and trims, develop fabrics through the final product. 

Who you are:

  • Have a strong sensibility for surface print and graphics, an ability to conceptualize a whole, finished garment and ideate all of its components to Design and Production.
  • Understanding of garment construction and appropriate use of fabrics and trims, particularly cut/sew knits.
  • Work directly with our factory partners to track and comment on submits in a timely manner, for excellent outcome. 
  • Experience communicating directly with factories.
  • Work with Tech Designer to fit and perfect all styles.
  • Manage multiple projects and seasons at once. Awareness of deadlines and commitment to keep them. 
  • Responsible for communicating needs and progress Head of Design and Merchandising at every step of the design process. 
  • Willingness to learn, compromise and redirect when needed; be part of a team.
  • Lead prep for meetings and presentations, including creation and set-up of boards, racks and decks.

Other Requirements and Considerations:

  • Must have 6+ years experience in the Women’s apparel market – kid’s market experience is a nice-to-have.
  • Proficiency in the full Adobe Creative Suite – ability to create technical sketches in Adobe Illustrator.
  • Strength in color pitching – specifically yarn dyes, plaids and sweaters.
  • Strong hand sketching and graphic ability required.
  • Experience and interest in product development.
