Assistant Knitwear Designer

One of the best Young Contemporary labels, American Rag, is looking for a dynamic Knit Assistant Designer to join our New York team.   Our brand caters to a fashion customer that follows the latest fashion trends. 

 The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and qualities:

 Requirements:

• At least 2 yr. experience. Design degree required.
• Candidate must be familiar with the full cycle of fashion design, inclusive of fashion trend forecasting, and garment construction.
• Excellent skills in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Microsoft Office
• Strong knowledge in PLM systems
• Strong organizational skills a must
• Good time management and ability to multitask/shift priorities
• Must be team player and have the desire to succeed.

Responsibilities include:

• Flats & Sketches – must sketch all designs in illustrator, paying close attention to details, keep sketches up to date throughout the design process
• Tech Packs – create and ensure all tech packs are complete with design components, fabric, trim, construction, color and details.
• Fabric sourcing –manage and follow up on all fabric development
• Trims - research and coordinate raw material and trims; maintain fabric/trim library, specific to knits category
• Receive and approve s/off’s; responsible for all communication/maintaining records
•  Attend all design meetings and follow up on creative direction.
• Create and maintain design line  sheets
• Prepare for all design presentations: assembling sketch boards, organizing samples for reviews, preparing for production meetings
• Develop strong working relationships with cross functional partners
• Attend and participate in all fittings when required
• Review all design submits with head of department
• Manage deadlines in accordance with the company calendar
• Contribute positively to team dynamic and manage up where necessary
