Senior Vice-President, Group Merchandise Manager, Apparel

Hudson’s Bay is a digital-first, purpose-driven retailer helping Canadians live their best style of life. As one of Canada’s most iconic brands, the organization comprises thebay.com featuring Marketplace (the 6th largest e-commerce business in Canada), as well as 80+ full-line locations. Hudson’s Bay operates under the HBC brand portfolio and, founded in 1670, is North America’s oldest company.

Staunchly committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion in all its forms, and with an abiding commitment to removing barriers to access and opportunity, this is a truly propitious time for organization—one that includes opportunities to increase the plurality of products and brands among its assortment of fashion, designer, home, beauty, and food concepts, and continuing to advance a workplace culture where employees meaningfully coalesce around shared values and as a united team. It is within this context that Hudson’s Bay invites applications for the role of Senior Vice-President, Group Merchandise Manager Apparel (SVP, GMM Apparel)—a position that will have an indelible impact on the continued growth and success of the organization.

Reporting to the Chief Merchant, the SVP, GMM Apparel is accountable for the sales, product offerings, and customer experience of the Apparel division, and is critical to the continued development of the organization’s digital footprint. As a visionary leader keen to further enhance the brand’s world-class, customer centric orientation, the incoming leader will bring a track record around building strategy; communicating a compelling vision; and, implementing well-thought-out plans in partnership with high-performing teams.

Among the qualifications sought in candidates, perhaps one of the most important is an understanding and belief, intrinsically, around the importance of creating a lasting impression and delivering meaningful experiences. The new leader for the division will bring: a digital first mindset that is amplified by a strong sense of purpose and optimism; excellent communication skills; and, the ability to lead in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. While all candidates are encouraged to apply and, in so doing, share how they see themselves adding value to the Hudson’s Bay environment, the following credentials and/or experiences are seen as possible markers of the candidates most likely to realize success in this role: A) several years of experience in senior roles in buying and/or merchandising; B) extensive management experience, preferably as a multi-category manager overseeing both creative and financial aspects of merchandising; C) digital experience including leading in a marketplace environment; and, D) post-secondary education in fashion, merchandising, business, or a related field.

Hudson’s Bay is partnering with BIPOC Executive Search to ensure an applicant list that has greater representation from Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour, thereby reflecting Canada’s diverse population.

We thank everyone for their expression of interest—and are truly appreciative of the time individuals put into applying—but with the limitations of time only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
