Head of Product Design, Development and Quality w/ a Sense of Humor

Requirements

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead the Design and Development team through their process to create best-in-the-world quality products that keep customers coming back for more.
  • Obsess over the customer. Digest and disseminate customer feedback to constantly improve Shinesty products.
  • Understand the business case of each product or potential product then use that information to make better design decisions.
  • Help us constantly improve our best-selling products while also pushing those initiatives forward cross functionally.
  • Concept and work with the team to develop new innovative, high quality products that are top of line and within budget.
  • Continuously innovate and push our product forward.
  • Improve design and development processes to work more efficiently and develop high quality products faster.
  • Provide solutions, not excuses, and don't settle for ‘good enough’.
  • Responsible for upholding design integrity, high quality execution and timeliness throughout the entire development process from concept to production.
  • Accountable for calendar adherence through the entire development process.
  • Partner with the Merchandising team to ensure product alignment from concept to launch.
  • Communicate new product ideas in milestone meetings and create finalized design briefs to be handed off throughout the company.
  • Maintain excellent partnerships and clear communication with internal cross-functional teams including merch, ops and marketing.

Must Haves:

  • A sense of humor
  • 10+ years of experience in apparel development and design of new products including 2+ years in direct management of design and/or development team
  • Experience working at an organization that consistently demonstrates product excellence
  • Strong leadership skills with proven success in leading a team and the ability to speak truth to power
  • Extensive experience with full product creation process from concept through production
  • Extensive knowledge of fit, fabric, garment construction, trims and applications
  • Experience with wovens and knits. Experience designing men’s products at a minimum, and a plus to also have experience with women’s products
  • Working knowledge of technical design
  • Experience building new teams and nurturing a strong, positive attitude and team dynamic
  • Experience working with overseas apparel manufacturers
  • Ability to travel overseas multiple times per year
  • Experience working with and selecting factories directly

Nice to Haves:

  • Merchandising or product management experience.
  • Hands on costing experience
  • Strong relationships with favored factories overseas
  • Experience at fast growing DTC company
