Manager of Retail Finance

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

The General Manager of Retail Finance leads a core team responsible for financial reporting & analytics for the Retail & Merchandising function within the museum. The General Manager of Retail Finance will work closely with the Manager of Accounting and Revenue Operations to prepare consolidated total company budgets, forecasts, reporting, performance data, and long-range plans as well as other ad hoc analysis & projects. The General Manager of Retail Finance will manage P&L reporting for the various retail cost centers and will work closely with the department leaders in managing their expenses and driving results.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Act as the key finance business partner for retail department leaders, providing detailed reports and updates on actuals vs budget/forecast
  • Manages a team of 2 including a Manager of Accounting and Revenue Operations and Senior Manager of Inventory Control
  • Manage the monthly close process, including variance to budget, accrual analysis, and balance sheet reconciliations in partnership with the manager of accounting
  • Manage yearly budget processes; working closely with stakeholders on expense and revenue inputs
  • Manage the monthly rolling forecast at a by department and detailed level to ensure a high level of accuracy for board reporting & financial decision making at all levels
  • Partner with planning team & inventory manager on obsolete inventory analysis and overall financial management of margin rate & inventory balance
  • Participate in deck development & reporting for key board meetings
  • Direct the execution of various strategic and business analyses related to expense optimization, marketing, operations, and payroll (including bonus goal setting)
  • Provide regular reporting on key performance indicators
  • Establish key relationships with department managers to drive financial and business reporting aimed at influencing business decisions
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of reporting & processes within the retail finance department
  • Other duties as assigned

 

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum of 10 years of Retail FP&A experience including management of financial reporting, modeling, and budgeting.
  • Advanced Excel skills with proficiency in modeling and working with large data sets required.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Must have the ability to analyze and interpret business and financial data and draw strategic conclusions.
  • Proactive with the ability to work both independently and cross functionally.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to effectively lead discussions with senior management.

Knowledge and Education:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline such as finance, accounting, economics or math.
  • General knowledge of GAAP accounting procedures & policies
