FINANCE & BUSINESS OPS LEADER

About Poncho Outdoors

Poncho is a direct-to-consumer outdoor apparel brand based in Austin, TX. Poncho launched in the summer of 2018 with a newly-designed, better-fitting shirt that’s made for the outdoors. We’ve grown dramatically since. We build functional clothing that has everything you need, and none of the stuff you don’t. Poncho is also building a community of people who love the outdoors. We’re sharing stories from the field, and most importantly, inspiring a new generation of outdoor enthusiasts to protect the wild places we love. The company is backed by venture investors and was founded by Clayton Spencer (UT BA, BBA ’03, Stanford MBA ’11).

What We’re Looking For

You have a passion for hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. You are a college senior or early career professional with demonstrated excellence in accounting and finance. You are excited by entrepreneurship, want to be a part of a small, high-performing team, and have a history of outstanding performance at high-caliber organizations and schools. You have an orientation towards getting things done, even in domains in which you have no prior experience. You love building brands and connecting with customers in innovative ways. Does this sound like you? If so, Poncho would like to talk to you.

About the Position

This position will effectively function as the CFO of our business. You will have extensive involvement in strategic decision making to an extent not possible in other roles out of college or in early career roles. With our growth trajectory, you will have a strong hand in guiding the business and managing all day-to-day operations. We are building Poncho to be the YETI of outdoor apparel, and we need a high-performing, talented and hungry person to help us get there.

Because of its importance, this position will report directly to the CEO. This position is a unique opportunity to manage all aspects of the day-to-day operations of Poncho. We will expect you to have an extreme detail orientation to keep the trains running on time and our business humming.

What You’ll Do

  • Everything. We are small, tight knit team, and you will have exposure to every aspect of the business
  • Prepare financial forecasts and plans
  • Manage full product lifecycle - from ideation to prototype to full production
  • Manage our global supply chain so that inventory arrives on time, on spec and on budget
  • Identify financing needs and help in securing capital when needed
  • Manage all financial accounting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual closing of books
  • Forecast inventory needs and place orders for new inventory
  • Manage stock levels in conjunction with warehouse team members
  • Manage vendor relationships and inbound logistics needs
  • Unexpected tasks will arise on a regular basis. Your ability to take on and solve unexpected issues is key
  • Most simply put - you will be an integral member of the small, three-person team that manages Poncho
  • Hunt and fish. A lot

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated passion for the outdoors, wildlife, hunting and fishing
  • Bachelor’s degree - finance, accounting, operations, or other related quantitative degree preferred
  • 0-3 years work experience in finance, consulting, accounting, or operations roles. If you are a college senior, you should have demonstrated professional success in a high caliber organization (e.g. consulting or investment banking internships)
  • Excel and modelling wizardry
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and the three financial statements
  • Experience managing supply chain/logistics also a plus
  • Knowledge of or experience with direct-to-consumer/ecommerce business models strongly preferred
